Changes and Moar Gamez!

Straight to business, I’m getting out of L5R. There are numerous reasons for this that can be summed up by simply saying that the time and money I put into the game don’t justify the enjoyment I get out. And I’m going to leave it at that. Unfortunately for anyone who uses my checklist spreadsheet this also means that I will not be making future updates. However, as I understand it, the Oracle of the Void is now available from AEG and will soon support exporting, so my file is pretty much obsolete anyway.

In exchange for my card collection I’m getting a reasonable pile of board games that will no doubt get more play time and better bang for the buck. On the list are: Read more of this post

Checklist update to fix proxy generator error

I swear I fixed this problem months ago, but the first column of cards in the proxy generator was displaying Force instead of Chi. This has been corrected along with some minor typos elsewhere. My apologies for any inconveniences.

The latest version of the file can be found here: L5R Inventory Checklist

L5R Inventory Checklist Update

The latest version of my L5R Inventory Checklist is now available and includes the forthcoming Forgotten Legacy set as well as foils, tokens, and alternate art. Be sure to check out the changelog for a full list of additions.

The checklist and additional information can be found here: L5R Inventory Checklist

My first sealed deck tournament

Last Sunday I headed down to Myth Games with HappyDD for a L5R: Before the Dawn (BtD) release tournament. Each competitor got a starter and three boosters to construct a 30/30 deck. Because BtD only includes starters for Crab, Lion, and Phoenix, I wasn’t able to play as my usual Scorpion clan and decided on the Lion starter. I played a total of 6 games. The first four games were qualifiers and I won 3 of them.

L5R Inventory Checklist Updated

Hot on the heels of the original release I’ve uploaded a new version of the checklist that includes all cards from the War of Honor (WoH) set. Some of the cards in the set are similar to previously cards of the same name but have updated rules text, flavor text, artwork, and/or edition bugs. Take note that some of the cards are not bugged and are only intended for playing with War of Honor. Also, WoH includes a card called Ring of Flame that should not be confused with Ring of Fire as they have significant differences!

I’ve added a new page under the Resources section specifically to house these checklists so that only the latest version of the file will be available on the site at any time. That page can be found here: L5R Inventory Checklist

Legend of the Five Rings Inventory Checklist

Ever since I got into L5R I’ve been looking for a collection management tool like but I haven’t found anything. The common recommendation is a program called Egg of Pan’Ku (EoPK) which, while it is sort of handy, is not a collection manager because it doesn’t allow you to track inventory. It lets you look up cards, create/save decks, and play online matches in a very tedious manner, so it’s not without use but it’s outdated and often nonsensical… the deck editor for example lists your fate cards on the left and dynasty on the right, even though it’s the other way around for actual game play. What was the thinking behind this nonsense?!

Anyway, I decided to create my own for personal use but upon seeing a thread on the official L5R forums about it I thought that sharing it would be nice.

This current version of the file covers sets and promos from the Celestial Edition. It includes inventory tracking, inventory statistics, quick look up and wishlist functionality, and a crude proxy card generator. I will be updating it as sets come out and will provide instructions on how to transfer your inventory numbers to the updated files as they come out. There are some instructions on the first sheet, mysteriously titled ‘Instructions’. The rest should be moderately easy to figure. PLEASE do not enter change anything in cells that are not shaded green because you could mess up the formulas and automation.

I hope you find it useful.
Legend of the Five Rings Inventory Checklist *EDIT* This now points to a Checklist specific page so that only the latest version is available from the site at any time.*EDIT*

I may in the future add a one time separate file for cards prior to Celestial Edition, but only if there is sufficient demand because I have no interest in it personally.

AEG customer service… amazing!

I just received a package from AEG with the missing items that I mentioned in my L5R review post. The items are a set of foil cards specific to my clan. Much to my amazement and delight, AEG included a Scorpion clan backed Imperial Favor card as well as a complete set of Scorpion clan plastic tokens! Thank you very much AEG!

The plastic tokens are made by Gale Force 9 and I’m quite impressed with the quality of them. Each token has a velvety backing on the under side and the details of the face side are very crisp.
