Warhammer: Invasion North American Championship at GenCon 2012

Warhammer: Invasion

I packed a Dark Elf deck to GenCon 2012 specifically for the North American Championship event and ended up doing very well considering the circumstances. First off, I couldn’t decide what deck to bring, or build for that matter, so HappyDD and I discussed some options the day before I left and I ended up using a slightly modified version of one of his decks that is based around the Offering to Hekarti quest. I’ll post a deck list later when I have it handy. Secondly, I had originally planned to build a deck and test it extensively during July and June but with various holidays and other events taking priority I showed up in Indianapolis with zero prep. In fact, my experience with the deck consisted of 4 to 5 simulations of play on the night before the tournament. Alchemist (my friend who attended GenCon with me) doesn’t play W:I and I didn’t bring any other decks so it was a pretty useless exercise but I got a feel for it.

Changes and Moar Gamez!

Straight to business, I’m getting out of L5R. There are numerous reasons for this that can be summed up by simply saying that the time and money I put into the game don’t justify the enjoyment I get out. And I’m going to leave it at that. Unfortunately for anyone who uses my checklist spreadsheet this also means that I will not be making future updates. However, as I understand it, the Oracle of the Void is now available from AEG and will soon support exporting, so my file is pretty much obsolete anyway.

In exchange for my card collection I’m getting a reasonable pile of board games that will no doubt get more play time and better bang for the buck. On the list are: Read more of this post

Game Review: Death Angel

Death Angel by Fantasy Flight Games (FFG)
Official Death Angel Website

Death Angel is a cooperative, card-based board game for 1 to 6 players. The players control a varying number of space marine terminator teams, dependent on the number of players, who venture through an ancient space hulk filled with Tyranid genestealers. It’s fast paced, exciting, and nerve-wracking. Death, on both sides, happens fast and frequently.

My first sealed deck tournament

Last Sunday I headed down to Myth Games with HappyDD for a L5R: Before the Dawn (BtD) release tournament. Each competitor got a starter and three boosters to construct a 30/30 deck. Because BtD only includes starters for Crab, Lion, and Phoenix, I wasn’t able to play as my usual Scorpion clan and decided on the Lion starter. I played a total of 6 games. The first four games were qualifiers and I won 3 of them.

L5R Inventory Checklist Updated

Hot on the heels of the original release I’ve uploaded a new version of the checklist that includes all cards from the War of Honor (WoH) set. Some of the cards in the set are similar to previously cards of the same name but have updated rules text, flavor text, artwork, and/or edition bugs. Take note that some of the cards are not bugged and are only intended for playing with War of Honor. Also, WoH includes a card called Ring of Flame that should not be confused with Ring of Fire as they have significant differences!

I’ve added a new page under the Resources section specifically to house these checklists so that only the latest version of the file will be available on the site at any time. That page can be found here: L5R Inventory Checklist

Enjoy!
